Of all the treasured memories I have of my earthly dad, the memory that still continues to melt my heart was seeing him waiting for me to come and visit during the last days we shared together on earth. Many times as I approached his home, I’d see him perched in his wheelchair, holding his arms out for a big hug. With a huge smile on his face, he was always welcoming, always loving, always wanting to spend time with me.
Every girl needs a daddy like that!
I have great news. If you are in a relationship with God through His Son Jesus, then you have exactly that kind of Father. As surely as I write, there are some who probably still doubt that reality. “Not me.” You say. “It’s too good to be true.”
And oh how right you are. It is too good to be true, and that’s what makes it all the more wonderfully exciting!
Here’s another reality, and it’s truly freeing when you grasp hold of it. Because of our Father’s love and sovereignty over our lives, we never have reason to fear. He’s a good, good Father, seeing beyond what we see and knowing beyond what we know. Because of that, He can be trusted to take care of our finances, our health, our loved ones, our careers, our relationships, our fear of failure , or any fear that rules our thoughts.
Maybe you don’t share my earthly experience of a “welcoming dad.” Maybe the very thought of Father’s Day fills you with dread and disappointment, but you can step in faith toward The One who loves you unconditionally. His love for you is not based on your worthiness or accomplishments. In fact, it’s not about you at all. It’s about HIM. He adores you because you are a product of His mind and His heart.
The Father-daughter relationship is not like joining a club. It’s a deliberate decision on your part to step by faith into this relationship, acknowledging that Jesus provided the way by His sacrifice on the cross. Your part is to walk through that Door of Faith, right into your Father’s Arms.
As the world around us celebrates the earthly fathers in our midst, may we acknowledge and celebrate in rapturous joy, the reality of a Heavenly Father who loves us beyond all comprehension. This moment, may you experience the sweet reality of a Father/daughter relationship that is deeper and wider and greater than anything on earth!
“See how very much our heavenly Father loves us, for He allows us to be called His children—think of it—and we really are!”
(1 John 3:1 TLB)
Happy Father’s Day!
